TRAGODIA SERIES

Tragodia III

In the Tragodia Series, Trapani explores a beauty shaped by memory and experience. These are moments of nostalgia, and sometimes melancholy, remembered in a fleeting and uncertain way, as if rediscovered somewhere else. There is a sense of history, but the original setting has been lost. The portraits hold a personal experience that has not been fully preserved. They become archives of gathered or reclaimed memories that reveal themselves now and then, as if found by accident while looking for something else.

The works feel archaeological, like objects newly unearthed. They carry the presence of something once powerful and regal, yet also the loneliness of realising that nothing lasts. We may not know where they came from, but we are drawn in by their mystery.

Here, decay is interrupted by the discovery of the ancient. Something is uncovered, but its identity and origin are lost. What remains is an attempt to hold on to a fading beauty: unnamed memories from a disappearing past.

The portraits are not of any one person. Trapani draws them from many sources, combining recollections of different people: details glimpsed in passing, or remembered from past relationships. A sense of longing runs through the sculptures, heightened by the architectural ruins that merge with, and emerge from, the once-majestic figures.
