Tragodia VIII pairs a notably smooth, pale face \u2014 cleaner than almost anything else in the series \u2014 with a black mass that drips from a gothic spire overhead, pooling into a thick bulb near the base. The spire belongs to church architecture; what’s dripping from it reads more like tar or melted wax.<\/p>\n
The face staying nearly untouched while everything attached to it decays is the inversion this piece runs on. Elsewhere the face usually carries the weathering while the ornament stays intact; here it’s reversed, as if the surface closest to memory holds up longest.<\/p>\n
